Legacy Bluescape Document Viewer

Note: Bluescape’s legacy Document Viewer is still active on on-premises installations until their next update. All other users should reference the Bluescape Document Viewer Functionality article.

This version of the Document Viewer allows you to upload and view supported documents in Bluescape. Let’s explore what you can do with documents in a workspace.

Opening documents

Select the document, then select Open.

Note: Only six documents can be opened simultaneously in a workspace. If more than 6 are open, the document with the least use is automatically closed.

When you exit a workspace and re-enter it, the last page you viewed in the document displays at the same zoom level and position as the last session.

Paging, panning, & zooming

Each document appears within a document viewer. When a document is opened, its document viewer becomes active. This allows members to page through documents, pan around them if they exceed the boundaries of the viewer (such as a multi-column Excel spreadsheet), annotate them, and zoom in and out.

  • To page through a document, select the Previous and Next arrows on the document toolbar.

  • To pan around a document, select and hold the document, then drag the cursor up or down on the document.

    • On a large display, tap and hold the document and use your finger to move it.
  • To zoom in or out on a document, press and hold the Ctrl (Windows) or Command (Mac) key on your keyboard and scroll with your mouse. Alternatively, use standard trackpad motions.

    • On a large display, place your thumb and forefinger on the document, then spread them apart to zoom in or pinch them together to zoom out.

Note: You cannot pan or zoom a document when it is in Presentation mode.

Annotating on documents :pen:

Annotating refers to the ability to add pen strokes to pages of a document as well as to the blank areas of the workspace.

Some rules regarding the way pen stroke annotations work:

  • You must open the document first before annotating it (see above).

  • Strokes can be applied to any page of a document. You are not limited to just marking up the default page.

  • Strokes exist either on content (for example, Document) or outside of content.

Attaching objects to documents

It is possible to attach objects to documents and documents to other objects. When an object is attached to a document and the document is opened, the attached object moves to the background (that is, it cannot be seen anymore but is still attached).

Because objects are attached to the document as a whole, it is not possible to add them to specific pages within the document.

Commenting on documents :comments:

  1. Select the document.

  2. Select :comments: (comments), then type and send your comment.

Each comment appears as a separate entry in the Comments panel. Learn all about commenting on assets.

Presenting a document :present:

To view each document page in presentation mode, click the Present button on the document toolbar.

  • If the document is the only object in the presentation, every document page can be viewed. You can move forward and back one page at a time.

  • If the document is part of a canvas being presented or it is one of the multiple objects in a presentation, then the presentation will display only the current page of each document.

Capturing an image of the document :capture:

You can capture a still image, or snapshot, of the current page of a document. This image can be acted upon like any other workspace asset.

To capture an image of the document, select :capture: (Capture) on the document toolbar.

Resizing a document

Documents can be scaled up or down without altering their aspect ratios or the aspect ratio of the viewport.

Note: Scaling is not the same as zooming. Zooming in and out does not affect the size of the document viewer; it only changes the size of the text and graphics visible within the viewer.

Resize a document

  1. Select and hold one of the resizing tabs on the border of the canvas.

  2. Drag your cursor outward or inward, depending on whether you want to increase or decrease the document size.

Resize the document viewer

  1. Select and open a document.

  2. Select and drag the resizing tabs to change the dimensions of the viewer.

  3. Select :more_options: (More), then Resize to fit on the document toolbar to fit the document to the new dimensions.

Note: If a document is pinned or has another attached document, it cannot be resized.
